Funny Things Our Kids Teach Us About Life
Y’all, kids will humble you, teach you, and have you laughing all in the same breath.
And the funny thing is, half the time they do not even realize they are dropping life lessons on us. They are just being themselves, fully, freely, and without overthinking anything.
Meanwhile, we are over here taking notes without even meaning to.
Because if you pay attention, kids will teach you more about life than most adults ever could.
Say What You Mean and Mean It
Kids do not dance around how they feel.
If they are happy, you know it. If they are not, you definitely know it.
There is no pretending. No masking. No trying to make it sound nicer than it is.
And while we might spend years learning how to filter and soften everything, there is something refreshing about that kind of honesty.
It reminds me that it is okay to speak truthfully, to express what I feel, and to stop overcomplicating my emotions.
Find Joy in the Simplest Things
It does not take much for a child to be happy.
A favorite song. A silly sound. A moment of attention. Something as simple as light dancing across a wall.
And yet, as adults, we complicate joy so much.
We think it has to be big, planned, or perfect.
Watching my child has reminded me that joy is often right in front of me, in the smallest, most ordinary moments.
Be Fully Present
When kids are in a moment, they are in it.
They are not thinking about what is next. They are not replaying what already happened. They are just there.
Fully engaged. Fully present.
And if we are honest, that is something many of us struggle with.
Life pulls us in so many directions that we forget how to just be where we are.
But our kids remind us.
Slow down. Pay attention. This moment matters too.
Laugh More Than You Think You Should
Kids will laugh at things we would never even notice.
Something random. Something silly. Something that makes absolutely no sense.
And they will laugh with their whole body.
No holding back. No worrying about how it looks.
Just joy.
That kind of laughter is freeing.
And honestly, we need more of it.
Because life can be heavy, and sometimes the best thing we can do is let ourselves laugh right in the middle of it.
Love Without Conditions
One of the most beautiful things about children is how they love.
It is not based on performance. It is not based on perfection. It is not based on whether you had a good day or not.
They love because you are theirs.
That kind of love is healing.
And it is a reminder that we do not always have to earn love. Sometimes, it is already there, waiting for us to receive it.
Closing Encouragement
Motherhood, caregiving, parenting in any form, it is not always easy.
There are hard days. Long nights. Moments where you feel stretched in ways you did not expect.
But woven into all of that are these small, beautiful, often funny moments that remind you why it all matters.
Our kids are teaching us, even when they do not realize it.
Teaching us how to live, how to love, how to slow down, and how to find joy again.
So today, I hope you take a moment to laugh.
To notice.
To learn.
Because the lesson might be right in front of you.
